Chapter VI
Places
⌘
The named places of Stonetop and the wider world — shrines, ruins, roads, and waters.
Stonetop & vicinity
- Ferrier's FennFen south of the village. The locals know which paths drown you and which don't.
- Red GroveA stand of trees whose leaves redden out of season. Folk skirt it.
- StonetopThe village (~300 people) at the heart of the folio. Built atop an old Maker-ruin hill, ringed by the Old Wall, governed by its Marshal and its tradition.
- The FlatsOpen prairie west of Stonetop — good grazing, poor cover.
- The Great WoodVast forest east and south of Stonetop. Home of the Forest Folk and the fae, and not all of it is well-meaning.
- The Old WallA ring of Maker-ruin encircling Stonetop. Older than memory; older, by some accounts, than the gods.
- The Ruined TowerA Maker-ruin one day's walk from town. Its lower halls remain unmapped.
Nearby settlements
- Barrier PassA settlement guarding the high pass through the Whitefang Mountains; five to six days north of Stonetop.
- Gordin's DelveMining town, four days west of Stonetop along the West Road. Trades in iron, copper, and tin.
- MarshedgeSizable town to the south, ten days' travel. Caravans bound for Lygos pass through here.
The wider world
- Blackwater LakeA still, dark lake whose surface gives back no reflection at certain hours.
- LygosA civilized city south of Marshedge — the closest piece of the wider world to Stonetop.
- ManmarchNorthern region; the realm of human kingdoms and old empires further still.
- The Dread RiverA river of dark repute. Crossings are few, and not all of them lead back.
- The Makers' RoadsAncient stone roads the Makers laid down. Safe to travel — most other ways are not.
- The SteplandsHill country south and east of Stonetop. Home of the Hillfolk, who travel and graze its rises.
- The Whitefang MountainsSheer northern range. Crossed only at Barrier Pass; the rest swallows people whole.
- Three-Coven LakeA lake bound up with the old witch-craft of the region. Its three covens still meet there, by some accounts.
- World's EndSparsely peopled region at the edge of what's mapped. Maker-ruins still stand there.
